Education and Genetic Architecture of Dementia and its effect on brain Lead Investigator: Yongha Kim Institution : Stanford University E-Mail : yongha@stanford.edu Proposal ID : 1038 Proposal Description: Education has long been associated with cognitive reserve that helps to lessen the effect of amyloidosis in dementia especially that of Alzheimer's Disease. In this project, we are looking to categorize the genetic architecture that might defer between subjects of different educational level. By performing genetic analysis (GWAS in particular, but not limited to), we would like to see if there are markers of gene x environment interaction that subserve different types of dementia. We will be using the neuropathology data to confirm dementia diagnosis as well. In a follow-up analysis, we would also like to use neuroimaging data to see if these differences in genetic architecture show any difference in brain structural morphology or connectivity.
